Eupatorium perfoliatum - Boneset
Eupatorium perfoliatum, commonly known as Boneset, is a beautiful native perennial that blooms in late summer to autumn, adding a lovely palette of white to pale lavender flowers to the landscape. Its delicate clusters of blossoms attract a variety of pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects, making it a valuable addition to any pollinator-friendly garden.
Boneset typically grows to about 3 feet tall and thrives in somewhat shady understories, such as beneath red maple and other deciduous trees. It prefers moist to wet soils, often found in low-lying woodlands, meadows, and along streambanks. The plant's distinctive leaves appear to be "perforated" by the stem, which adds to its unique appearance and appeal in naturalized settings. Boneset not only enhances the aesthetic beauty of gardens and natural areas but also supports biodiversity by providing nectar and pollen for various pollinators well into the fall.
